Obsolete: upgrade from the server

Introduction

Through this article, we explain how to upgrade the ByteBlower server from the server CLI.

Note:  The ByteBlower server needs internet acces to perform an upgrade directly on the server
Connect to the ByteBlower

To update the ByteBlower server, you'll need a console on the ByteBlower. This can be achieved in 2 ways.

  1. Physical console: Connect a screen and a keyboard.
  2. SSH: Log in from the terminal (Linux or Mac) or with an application such as PuTTY (Windows).

Log in using the root and the password ("excentis" by default)

Go into the update mode

The ByteBlower server needs to reboot into a specialized update-mode.

To get into this specialized update-mode, execute

# byteblower-update
To proceed, we need to reboot the system. Is this ok? (yes/no) yes

Now the ByteBlower server will reboot into update mode. On older systems (ByteBlower server 1100 and 1200), this can take a little while.

When the server rebooted into its specialized update-mode, the ByteBlower server will keep its vital information: IP address, SSH-keys, and root password.

After login, the ByteBlower update system will launch.

Optional - Fixed IP address

If you need to configure a fixed IP for this ByteBlower to be able to communicate then this article (How to: Use a static IP in byteblower update) will help you.

Optional - Proxy server

If you need a proxy server in your lab-environment this article (How to: Use a proxy-server to update a server) will provide you with how you can configure this.

Basic update
  1. Select "1. Update the ByteBlower server"

  2. The system will ask if the system may proceed.
  3. When Yes is selected, the ByteBlower Software update system will create a restore point and start the update.
  4. When an update is found for the ByteBlower Software update system itself, the system will request to reboot.
  5. If the server reboots in the step above, please repeat steps 1 to 3.
  6. After the update is completed, a status message will be shown:
Optional - Select the version to boot
